Battery cages

An early reference to battery cages appears in Milton Arndt's 1931 book, Battery brooding, where he reports that his battery cage flock was healthier and had higher egg production than his conventional flock. At this early date, battery cages already had the sloped floor that allowed eggs to roll to the front of the cage, where they were easily collected by the farmer and out of the hens' reach. Arndt also mentions the use of conveyor belts under the cages to remove manure, which provides better air control quality and reduces fly breeding
Original battery cages extended the technology used in battery brooders, which were cages with a wire mesh floor and integral heating elements for brooding chicks. The wire floor allowed the manure to pass through, removing it from the chicks' environment and reducing the risk of manure borne diseases. This form of battery cage is coming into widespread use throughout the country and apparently is solving a number of the troubles encountered with laying hens in the regular laying house on the floor

Necessary things to put in place in poultry house

1. If you want to raise your birds in battery cage system, then build a large house compared to the length, wide and height of broiler house
2. Use dropped ceiling system. This will improve ventilation and reduce heating costs. Layer house needs to be slightly higher than the broiler house
3. Dropped ceilings also allow the installation of ceiling insulation to reduce heat gain during hot weather/seasons and heat loss during cold climates/weather
4. Adequate temperature management system is also a very important factor for layer poultry housing. Poultry birds are very sensitive to temperature
5. Use proper cooling and heating system inside the house. Be very careful about temperature management while raising layer chicks. Because your chicks may die due to sudden temperature change. Good ventilation system delivers fresh air inside the house, and removes excess heat, moisture and undesirable gases from the house

Feeding Equipment

Water equipment
Water equipment is filers, water softeners, water heaters. Pan/jar, plastic basin, automatic water device. Others are manual drinker, nipple drinker. The advantage of manual drinkers is easy establishment of vaccines and nutrients in the water. Vaccination is delivered through a syringe or automatic vase
Tools
Basic tools are used for cleaning purposes while special ones are made for certain activities. A specialized tool is the beak trimmer, nest box and weighing scale. They need guillotine, knives and slaughter slab. Housing
The housing depends on the type of poultry farming. Layers are kept in battery cages while broilers also have cages now designed for their comfortable living and healthiness. Same as pullet cages

The transport van should have temperature control gauge. This is because chickens are easily stressed and will die. The farmer needs transport boxes to carry the birds
